Me Made May

Me Made May

I’ve read a few blog posts about Me Made May recently. I remember reading about the Me Made May of 2014 a whole year ago when I hadn’t made anything. I thought that maybe by 2016 I might have enough ‘made by me’ bits and pieces to take part.

me made may 15

The more posts I read the more I realised that actually the challenge was not to wear something you’ve made every day, although many do, but to challenge yourself to wear what you’ve made more often than usual and perhaps discover holes in your wardrobe that you might fill over the coming months.

In Zoe (who runs the challenge) of SoZoWhatDoYouKnow’s words

Me-Made-May’15 (#mmmay15 for social media interaction) is a challenge designed to encourage people who sew/knit/crochet/refashion/upcycle garments for themselves to actually wear and love them. The me-made and self-stitched challenges have been taking place for five years now and they work on both a personal and community level. The participants decide the specifics of their own challenge pledge, so that the month is appropriate and challenging for them (more on this below). For example, a very common pledge is for a participant to aim to wear one self-stitched or refashioned garment each day for the duration of May 2015. The participants can also choose to document their challenge with daily photos (though this is in no way compulsory for taking part) and share them with other participants.

I’ve had a scan through my ‘made by me’ wardrobe and think that with a couple of extra pieces I could pledge to wear stuff I’ve made 4 times a week – if the sun shines.

I really didn’t realise how much I’ve produced in the 9 months I’ve been doing this dressmaking malarkey but there will obviously be some repetition in outfits!

I could also incorporate a bag or two.

Although perhaps not my wedding handbag.

If it remains cold I’ll just have to wear my socks.

These will be purely weekend attire. I couldn’t squeeze them into my heels.

I’ll not bore you with daily photos but perhaps with the odd round up or two to record my fulfilled pledge.

So here is my pledge.

‘I, Lucie, of Love, Lucie, sign up as a participant of Me-Made-May ’15. I endeavour to wear…at least 4 ‘me made’ garments per week…….. for the duration of May 2015′

I shall enjoy the interaction with the other 356 who have signed up.

Anyone else reading pledged?

Love, Lucie x

About lovelucie1

I cannot sit without something in my hands to sew, crochet, sketch etc. This becoming something of an addiction. In fact, I start to get twitchy if I am stationary somewhere, waiting for an appointment, waiting for my daughter, away with work, without some project to keep my hands busy. Minutes wasted make me anxious. This blog logs my progress to raise funds through my creations to feed my textile habbit.

  4. Cardigans at the ready! I’m pretty worried about what the weather will throw at us too. You’ve made some great items. Do you get to wear them as much as you want to?

    • I’ve generally been sewing for summer so I’ve not worn everything much so far. I really try and make stuff that i’ll find really useful and that I can wear everyday.
I’ve 5 tops that I can wear for work with smart trousers but it’s been a little chilly for bare arms for a while.
I’ve not yet worn my dress but I hope to put that right this weekend.
I just need to work my way up to work trousers but that won’t happen this May!

  8. Fingers crossed for some sun in May for you! I’ve done Me Made May in the past, but found it a bit stressful so I’m not taking part this year.

Did you have a pattern for that gorgeous denim (?) clutch bag with the ivory crochet semi circle on it? I’d love to make something like that.

  9. Me Made May was fun last year and I was in pretty much the same position as you, having only been sewing clothes for a few months. Also my first makes were lots of sleeveless tops (sound familiar?) and it was rather cold last year in May! Good luck!

  11. Looks like you could wear them every day as long as you wash them every week or so. (I have been wearing hand-made socks everyday for the last couple of weeks. I have 5 or 6 pairs.) But I presume this is more about dressmaking.
