Otto the Octopus

In my humble opinion Otto the Octupus ranks highly amongst my makes. Taken from Vanessa Moncie’s Crocheted Sea Creatures, crocheted sea creatures by Vanessa Mooncie

the design is absolutely superb.

This book is full of fabulous underwater creatures. The shark on the front of it is probably the least inspirational. I wonder why the shark was chosen for the front cover; a multitude of  ‘order yarn straight away’ projects lie within. Read the rest of this entry

Ferns

Ferns

Firstly, I hope you all had a lovely Easter break and didn’t eat as many of these as I did.

Hot cross buns

I also ate a whole Easter egg in one sitting 😉

Anyway, back to the ferns. Ferns, in the loosest, botanically incorrect sense of the word, I think. I had seen some lovely images of clean simple embroidery on Pinterest. My embroidery board is here if you’d like to have look. It features quite a variety of techniques. I’m quickly swayed towards one style when a search me takes down another route.

My recent sort out of my dmc threads also made me appreciate the lovely selection of greens I had hidden in my tin. Read the rest of this entry

And they called him Frank.

My husband’s grandson, Henry, has reached the grand old age of one. We simply can not believe where the time has gone.

With Morris the monkey the 2nd successfully introduced to prolong the life of Morris the first I was keen to add to his collection.

The Very Berry Mini Hoop Swap

So the last week in March heralded the sending and receiving of mini hoops as organised by Ali of Veryberryhandmade IG @veryberryhandmade.

70 of us took part in this mini hoop swap. Mini because the hoops measured just 5.5cm across. The only proviso in the swap was to use Instagram to tag your hoop #veryberryhoopswap Read the rest of this entry

My Mother’s Day treat

My Mother’s Day treat

As a rule we don’t usually go to town over Mother’s Day. We never have really, preferring not to jump onto the band wagon of expensive presents and forced lunches out. So it was quite by coincidence that a free Sunday aligned with the weather and Mother’s Day and a trip to our (very) local Yorkshire Sculpture Park (YSP).

We went immediately after breakfast and were pleased we did. The car park attendants were parking cars in overflow car park number 4 when we were leaving.

We had heard good things about the latest exhibition. Being a complete art philistine I knew nothing of the artist, Tony Cragg, a British Sculptor born in Liverpool, 1949, but instantly felt a sense of ‘these seem familiar’ on entering the Underground Gallery.

Some finished things

Some finished things

This is a catch up post. Sometimes I’d rather spend my time crafting than writing and recently I’ve become hooked on Instagram (love_lucie) , finding it so quick to post and watch others’ daily updates.

However I still enjoy the slower pace of the blog, both the reading of blogs and the writing of posts. I remember when I started the blog, nearly 3 years ago, I was concerned to read that blogs were coming to a natural end and everyone was moving onto the faster paced media channels of Utube and Tumbler and Instagram.

I’m glad the blog is still around. The blog doesn’t suddenly start blaring out of my computer when I’m sat in my office with my door open. The blog doesn’t use up my phone battery or data when streaming video, the blog allows me to pick up, read, put down when interrupted, pick up again, recap. I like a still image and the written word.

Any, back to the finished things. Read the rest of this entry
